"Contacting Moonbase Alpha" NOTE: This log done with cooperation of the player of Lt. Maxwell Richards of the ST:Sliders sim. "Commander," the OPS officer called out. "Lt. Richards of Moonbase Alpha is answering the hail." "Very good, Ensign," Svann responded, rising from the center seat. "Send it to the captain's ready room. I will take it in there." "Aye, sir." Svann entered the ready room and moved behind Admiral Culkin's desk. He touched the control, and the face of his long-time friend, Max Richards appeared. "Svann," Richards said. "Whatever it is, I didn't do it this time." "That response is highly illogical, Maxwell," Svann commented with a raised eyebrow. "I don't think it is," Max told him. "Last time I saw you, you were throwing me in the brig." "That is incorrect," Svann said. "The last time I saw you was the evening we spent together before you left for the Columbia, and I left for the White Knight." "Oh, yeah," Richards agreed. "That was a great evening. It was no doubt the numerous times before that which you threw me in the brig that makes me jumpy." "As a security officer," Svann pointed out, "It was my duty to incarcerate those whose actions decided their fate. Even if that person was once my roommate." "Geez, Mr. Vulcan," Richards complained. "Haven't you learned how to recognize when someone is joking, yet? All that time i spent with you at the Academy and you didn't learn?" "Decyphering human emotions will always elude me, Maxwell," Svann said. "You and almost every other Vulcan, Svann," Maxwell told him with a chuckle. "So, don't worry about it." "I can assure you, I shall not." Richards laughed. "I am certain you won't. Now, as much as I would like to think you called me just to talk, I somehow don't think that is the case." "You are correct," Svann told him. "I was instructed to call you. The White Knight is headed your way. I believe Admiral Culkin is going to try and get one of your sliding generators installed on the ship." Richards stared back through the monitor. He was silent for a moment. "I probably don't want to know why, but I am sure your admiral will have to speak with mine." "I am certain he will," Svann acknowledged. "So, in the meantime, send me Knight's current specs, and I'll start preparing, in case they come to an agreement." "On the way," Svann told him, touching a control to transmit the curent ship specs. "Great," Richards replied. "It will be good to see you again, Svann. See you when you get here." "Indeed," Svann told his friend. "We have a twenty-nine hour E.T.A." "See you then, my friend. Richards out." Svann watched the face of the engineer turn back tot he Federation of Planets insignia. He sat there and contemplated his long-time friend. |
