The days passed quickly following the argument, almost too quickly she thought to herself. She had never allowed herself to have an actual vacation in several years now. They had found themselves lost in their own little world for a little while. Relaxing hadn't come easily to Brian for obvious reasons but she liked to think that she had succeeded in shooing away the nagging thoughts that unsettled him so much. But now it was time to return to the ship and while Brian worked out the details of his ideas and plans she had decided to take a walk and find the falls that she had heard when she stood out on the balcony. She had found a path that led into the wooded area and followed it until it came to a large clearing that contained the majestic falls. It was everything she had pictured in her head, she was sitting now at the water's edge thinking mostly of the past and found her heart ache, at first she thought it was the painful memories, but then she realized it was something more, something was missing a piece of the puzzle that she had somehow lost the piece to in the shuffle of events. She sat and tried hard to pin point it gazing at the falls as if for answers to the question that continued to pull at her heart strings despite all of the resolved issues she and Brian had meticulously worked through in the days previous to this. Something was wrong, she knew that much, but the more she thought about it the more the answer alluded her. Eventually she gave up and let the ache persist, she would mention it to Brian later, perhaps between them they could figure it out together. She let herself lay back on the soft grass, hand trailing across the water causing ripples to go in different directions from the movement. She thought about when she was a child now, her parents would have loved this place, suddenly the feeling within her chest tightened as she realized she hadn't spoken to the only blood relative she had left. How long had it been now? She began to wonder, something was seriously off about this, Kaelianna wasn't known to miss a call, but then again she herself hadn't made any effort to contact her in sometime now...had she? She began to retrace her steps over the past several months. She had called, Teran had allowed her to use their resources to do so when she met the planet...Kaeli hadn't been available though and no one had known where she had gone, at the time Drey had thought they had meant at that moment. She decided she would make the call as soon as she returned to the ship, someone was bound to know something if she couldn't be reached. As she laid in the grass she tried to pull from Kaeli as they would do if the other was in trouble of some sort. Some had called it "twin sense" they had always giggled at this as girls then refined it as they grew older. If one was in trouble you can bet that the other was always on their way to help. Things had changed Drey was on the WK, and now she missed her sister, She smiled as she remembered their twin pole dance. When Brian had brought that up she hadn't thought about it in forever. Her past before Brian was one that she had wanted to forget and she had been successful. Kaeli had been drunk as hell with Drey not far behind, it was the only way they could get away from the world. Had Kaeli dyed her hair black and her eyes been purple (a rarity in their family) rather than the blood line's more common ice blue, no one would have been able to ever tell them apart. But no their parents had been lucky in having differences from birth in their girls. Drey's eyes glistened with the tears forming at the corners of her eyes, she missed not only her sister, but Arus, and her parents. She had never really grieved for that loss, she moved forward swiftly without ever faultering. She rarely spoke of it, Travis and Brian both knew that Drey rarely talked about the elements that led to her parents deaths. She was a stone as far as those events were concerned and nothing would ever change that their deaths changed her deeper than even Brian had, the facade had become necessary then as she had thought she had to do now in the situation they faced. With a deep breath she decided it was time to return, time to stop thinking about things that she could not change. Back to business, the past would stay in the past, though she reminded herself to make that call as soon as they were aboard the WK, that would come first, then Jessica would be dealt with. Gathering herself she stood and made her way back to her husband. |
