ON Toira settled on the deck of her mother-ship, and the power was shut down. Ensign Hartlett, whom had been Jasmine's pilot, opened the hatch. As the occupants of the special shuttle exited, the familiar "piping aboard" sound could be heard. Jazmine gazed out with satisfaction at her gathered officers. They were all in dress uniform, and the senior staff was all present. She looked directly to her XO. "Erie'Rionv Ronov," she stated formally. "May I present..." she turned to the guest who had accompanied her from the Alpha Quadrant. "... Admiral Gabriel Toran." Ronov snapped a smart Romulan salute, as the admiral stepped forward. "Admiral! Welcome aboard, sir." "Thank you, Erei'Riov," Toran replied, returning the salute. "I have heard much about you, and it is a pleasure to finally meet you." 'Hann'yyo," Ronov acknowledged with the Rihannsu 'thank you.' "Your quarters have been prepared." "Thank you," Toran returned the gratitude. She looked at the officer standing next to Ronov. "Commander Svonn. Starfleet owes you much gratitude for your outstanding, and above-duty actions concerning the survival of this ship." "Such gratitude is not necessary, Admiral," the Vulcan responded. "I was merely doing what Starfleet expected of and entrusted me to do." "It is not often, Commander," Toran commented, "That a Starfleet officer not only has to assume command of a vessel, but to keep together a combined crew of proven enemies, and for the length of time that you did. Make no mistake, Commander. You performed above and beyond expectations." "I acknowledge this and appreciate you saying so, Admiral," Svonn replied. Toran smiled and turned to Jazmine. "Well, Captain. Shall we not keep your crew from their duties any longer?" "Agreed, Admiral." Jazmine looked out over her officers. "Thank you all. Dismissed." The formal greeting line broke up, and the officers disbursed. Only Ronov and Svonn remained with Jazmine and the admiral. "What is out current status, Ronov?" Jazmine inquired. "We have just arrived on-station, just outside what the Starzen have deemed as the Forbidden Area. The Starzen admiral's ship is on long-range sensors and now has an ETA of 45 minutes." Two crew members quickly moved in and took the captain's bag as well as the admiral's. The command officers started to move towards the exit. "I take it nothing has changed since your last report," Jazmine asked. "They are still allowing us access to the base." "Ie," Ronov replied. "There is no change there." "What is your opinion of the Starzen admiral," Toran inquired. "Does he seem receptive to our presence, or are we going to have to continually... stroke his feathers?" Ronov smiled at the admiral's analogy of how they would possibly have to handle the Starzen command. "Honestly, Admiral, I believe the Starzen admiral is to be considered an ally of this. Commander Svonn seems to have won the respect and I believe if anyone ...." He searched for the proper Terran phrase. "... stood up for us with their council, the admiral did." "Excellent," Toran acknowledged. "Once again, good work, Mr. Svonn." Admiral," Svonn spoke up. "Will you now be assuming control of this mission?" "Assuming control? No. Starfleet felt it important I be out here, Commander, but I am here to work WITH all of you. Any decisions being made shall be done collectively, by all of us. I am here to facilitate things, not take them over." The turbo-lift stopped at deck 2. The officers, led by Jazmine, stepped off and walked down a few doors. On her approach the door swooshed open. "This will be your office, Admiral. I trust you will find it to your liking." "Indeed I do, Captain," Toran said, walking into the office. "Commander." Jazmine turned to Svonn. "I would like to see a list of crew you would like to have as a team for working on the base." "I have already prepared a team roster, Captain," Svonn told her. "It is in a prepared file for you and the admiral, outlining the crew we should utilize and the areas of the base we should initially concentrate on." "Very good," Jazmine said with a smile. "Admiral, I am going to head to my quarters for a quick... clean-up before the Starzen arrive. Is there anything else you require right now?" "No," Toran replied. "That does sound like a good idea, however, if you would be so kind to show me where you will have me staying." "Your quarters," Svonn chimed in, "are directly below this office, on deck three, Admiral." He pointed to a doorway towards the rear of the office. "There is a spiral staircase which leads into your quarters. Your belongings should already be in there." Gabriel smiled warmly. "Well that certainly sounds nice and convenient. Thank you, Commander." Svonn simply nodded his head. "Very well," Jazmine stated. "Let me know the minute the Starzen command ship has arrived. We will convene in the main conference lounge, and outline our plans to the Starzen."
