"Romulan Response"
by: Lukas Fyrstk

This takes place prior to "Hobus" part 4

ON

The Senate proceedings were on his vid-screen, the same as any normal day.  Enriov (admiral) Rohnok had never cared for politics, but his current position in the Galae demanded he keep an eye on things.  Especially with the tentative state of the Rihannsu government.
It felt good to be back on ch'Rihan, or Romulus as the Fleeters called it.  When the Empire had split, the majority of the Fleet followed Empress Donatra, while Tomalak had retained control of a handful of ships.  Tomalak had remained loyal to Tal'Aura who had seized control of the Praetorship, and caused the split of the empire.  Tal'Aura's subsequent assination, and the election of Chulan as Praetor, and the three factions were able to bring the Empire back together. Rohnok could, once again, freely travel back and forth to his family's estate, and enjoy the natural beauty of his homeworld.
Though Rohnok generally found it an unpleasant chore to watch the Senate proceedings, today he was interested.  Ambassador Spock was to address the Senate.  Rohnok had close ties with the Federation, and despite most of his people's distrust of the other Alpha Quadrant power, his own personal dealings with Starfleet had always been above-board and honorable.
Starfleet had been very open and honest, when it came to passing information about the T'Kil, which still remained a horrible threat to the entire quadrant.  It had come as no surprise to Rohnok to hear, then Commander, Donatra's account of what happened with Shimzon and the Fleeter ship, Enterprise.  And the joint mission between the Galae, and Starfleet, aboard the U.S.S. Athena, in the far reaches of the Beta Quadrant seemed to be working out well.
Rohnok listened as Spock spoke of Hobus going super--nova.  He listened, with great interest, to the Vulcan's theory and possible solutions.  While the thought of the super nova, actually having a profound effect on ch'Rihan seemed preposterous, Rohnok knew the ambassador would not be trying to raise an alert foolishly.  Then, the very fact that the Senate dismissed Spock's warning, had made up Rohnok's mind.
"Sonta," Rohnak said, calling to his aide over the comm.  "I need an immediate audience with Empress Donatra."
