"Hobus" part 3
by: Lukas Fyrstk

Spock wastes no time in requesting an urgent audience before the Romulan Senate and contacting the Federation with this predictions and theory. Though well-regarded, most Federation scientists reject the theory outright as ludicrous but there are those in Starfleet with a deeper respect of Spock. Those individuals begin to take quiet, though initially uncoordinated, actions.

The Romulan Senate hears Spock present his findings and his proposed solution: Process the rare and precious isotope decalithium into highly volatile "red matter" to create an artificial black hole using technology from his home planet, Vulcan. Using the red matter to create a blackhole near enough Hobus to stop the supernova sequence. The Senate disregards his theory of doom as preposterous and even more-so his plan to stop it.

Nevertheless, a day later Spock informs his allies of his intention to accept an offer from the Romulan Mining Guild Chairman, who was nearly killed by the initial Hobus nova event, to mine the decalithium. They depart Romulus aboard the Starship Narada soon after, heading far from Romulus to the Kimben system.

As a precaution Spock carries with him a Federation transponder. His concerns are not unfounded as forces are conspire against Spock. Some enemy learns of their plans and orders a Reman attack on the Narada before the mining is complete. Luckily, the USS Enterprise arrives to assist the Ambassador, disrupting the Reman attack.

After the Enterprise rescues the Narada. Captain Data confers with Spock and confiscates decalithium the Remans are carrying. They also provide repairs to the Narada and engage a course for Vulcan.

Meanwhile... Starfleet's quiet inquiries and observations of the Hobus Star indicate that Spock's theory may very well be right. Forces within Starfleet and the Federation begin to mobilize. A covert operation is authorized to violate Romulan Star Empire space to goto the Hobus System and observe and stop this cycle. Much of the information, including the dire predictions from Spock, remain unknown to the general Starfleet population, though.
