=/= "Bonestar Irregularity" =/= JDL: Commander Hart and Captain Richards (moonbase) NOTE: This takes place following the sim of 260121. Commander Thomas Hart had completed the procedure of putting the USS Eagle into stand-by mode. The ship was now docked inside Moonbase, but it was also ready to depart, at a moment's notice. The chief engineer decided to go and check on the Incubation Room, where the Bonestar, they had received, was all being processed. As he stepped to the entrance of the specially set up room, he heard a voice. "Commander Hart," called the voice of Captain Maxwell Richards, the chief engineer, over all, of the Sliders pro jects. He appeared to be in his early fifties, around 183 cm, tall, and in fit condition. He walked briskly toward the Eagle's chief engineer. "Captain," greeted Hart. He knew who the man was, but had not had a chance to actually meet him. He extended a hand. Richards took the offered hand, and gave it a firm shake. "I was reading up on this Bonestar," richards said. "I wanted to see what you had set up. Admiral Mallory's quite excited about this find." "Right in here, Sir," Hart replied, indicating the incubation room. "Please, call me Max," Richards requested. "Calling me, 'Sir,' makes me think someone important is around and that gets me nervous." "Max it is," Hart replied with a chuckle. "And, seeing as we will be working together on Bonestar's implementation, just call me Tom." "Thanks, Tom," Richards acknowledged, They walked into the incubation room. There were twenty incubation chambers set up in two rows. Each chamber had a monitor displaying the incubation process. There was a an engineer at a monitoring station, which showed the status of each chamber "This is quite impressive," Richards commented. "It is small compared to the incubation setup on the caninoid conveyance," Hart said. He quickly detailed the different steps in the process, and how the incubation process was deliberately a slow refinement. Looking at one of the displays, Richards remarked, "I see keeping it at a specific temperature is crucial." "It is," Hart confirmed. "That is why we constantly monitor it. Sprout... the ipso-facto chief engineer on the conveyance, had cautioned us on how the incubation process can, and will, heat up the Bonestar to explosive levels,... " He stopped as he approached one of the far incubation chambers. He furrowed his brows, then tapped on the display. "Is something wrong?" Richards asked. "I'm not totally certain," hart replied, still looking at the display. He looked over his shoulder at the main monitoring station. "Ensign Behr?" The young man, looking to be in his mid twenties came over. He straightened up, seeing the pips on Captain Richards uniform. "Yes, Sir?" "Were you monitoring the chambers all morning?" Hart asked. "Yes, Sir," Behr answered. "And, yes, I did note the rise in temperature, on this particular chamber. I did come over to investigate, and when I got here, the temperature had lowered, and all other readings had leveled out. It is in my report, Sir." "Have we had any other such instances?" Hart asked. "Not while I've been monitoring them, Sir," Behr replied. "I could check yesterday's reports." "Go ahead," Hart ordered. When the ensign moved away, Tom looked back to Richards. "I doubt he will find anything in yesterday's reports. I was in and out of here throughout the day." "Interesting though," Richards noted. "If I'm reading this correctly, the Bonestar hadn't come close to overheating, but if it had not been noticed, or attended to... " "It would have been a mess in here," Hart finished for him. "Well, it looks like you are doing all you can, to prevent that," Richards commented. "How about we go to your office and look over the specs for all of this." Tom gave a silent nod, and the two walked off. =/= END LOG =/= |
