"The Two of Her"
by: Rayne McCloud

JDL: Dr. Ane, Dr. Resork-EMH and Dr. Ane

"Note: This takes place after the sim of 250423.

Dr. Celeste Ane remained on duty for some time before the mental strain started to wear on her. She continued to update files and do general checks on their patients. She let Dr Resork treat the more complicated issues as she was under mental strain and while she didn’t feel compromised, she was not taking any chances with her patients health.

Now, her own health… that was another subject all together. Celeste tried to push through the mental pressure, but a short time ago, the pain flared to a white hot poker behind her left eye. Trying to will it away was not working. When the nausea started, she turned off the computer, closed her eyes and swallowed hard. She was NOT going to throw up. Time to take something for this migraine before it got even worse.

Leaving the office, she had to hold the door jam for a moment as dizziness swept over her. When the dizziness passed, Celeste opened her eyes, but the vision refused to focus in her left eye. She spotted Dr Resork across the room, and called to him.

“Dr Resork, a moment of your time please?”

The EMH turned away from his patient, and moved toward Celeste. His face drew a genuine look of concern. "It's getting worse, I see," he commented, as he prepared a hypo.

Celeste just nodded. “Migraine starting. Vision blurry to left eye. Whatever you give me is gonna take me down, but right now it can’t be helped.” Celeste agreed

Just then, the doors to sickbay slid open. A young woman, in medical scrubs strode in. She stopped the moment she saw the two doctors, and her jaw dropped open.

"So this is why my head is hurting so bad," the alternate version of Dr. Celeste Ane exclaimed.

It took a few seconds for the Prime Celeste to realize who had walked into sickbay. “Dr Ane I presume?” she said through slightly clenched teeth, trying to be humorous. “I see being around April has given you an advantage to keep yourself together.”

Prime) Celeste started to make her way to a chair by the desk. Her head was starting to hurt more as she stood. She hadn’t had a migraine this severe in years. She forgot they could be this bad.

The alternate Celeste smiled. "I certainly was not expecting this," she said evenly, "but now that I know what... who I am dealing with, I can take appropriate action." It took less than a moment, and then Prime Celeste felt relief as the feelings this connection with the alternate version of herself almost totally vanished. There remained just a slight hint of a presence.

"That is the best I can do," the alternate woman stated.

Celeste felt a huge pressure fall away from her head, and the vision returned to her left eye. She still had a doozy of a headache from the effects she felt before Celeste prime mitigated the effects, but she no longer felt as if she was going to pass out. “That is much better.” She breathed a sigh of relief. “Not perfect, but at least I’m not going to throw up. You’ll have to teach me that before we leave.”

Alternate Celeste quirked a brow. "You didn't learn it from Aunt April as I did?" she asked.

“No. In my universe, Aunt April died when I was young. Luna and I did what we could growing up. Obviously you’ve had some more time to learn.” She cringed again. “Now, could someone please get me something for this headache so I don’t have to get up myself?” She asked.

The emergency medical hologram pressed the hypo to Celeste's neck and depressed the device's trigger. There was a hiss as the analgesic solution was introduce into the woman's body.

The alternate Celeste frowned at her double's statement. "I am sorry you had to lose her. We did a lot of growing up, and quick, in this universe because of the Typhon Pact. Is that how she died in your universe, fighting against the Pact?"

Celeste shook her head, the pain finally fading. A sigh of relief is heard before, “no. She died protecting Ronnie and her starbase from an assassin. It was a huge shock to everyone. Luna and I did our best, but we lacked a lot of guidance mentally. I can sense that your shields are much much stronger than mine. Which is why I couldn’t block you out and had the backlash.” A smile finally graced her face, “your mother is going to be very glad to see you! Aunt April is going to be ecstatic to know you are all safe. She’s lost a bit of weight worrying about all of you. You ARE all good, right?”

"For the most part, yes," alternate Celeste answered. "Mrs. Fyrstk was injured in that last attack, but we have her stabilized, and Dr. Henley says it looks promising. Noble is helping in the engine room, and Ronnie transported over from the... our Eagle, to help as well."

Celeste was starting to feel better, so she stood up looking between Resork and her double. “What can we do to help?” She offered

"You have already done so much," the double exclaimed softly. She swept her hand around the main ward. "All these poor people you so willingly took aboard and treated... It was such a relief, even if I was a bit... distracted." She smiled at Celeste.

Smiling at her counterpart, Celeste said, “Ian did most of it.” Signaling to the EMH. “I was more ‘distracted’ than you were. I was almost useless.” She walked over to this universe's version of herself. “Before you do any thing else young lady, we’re gonna make sure YOU are ok. If I return you to those crazy women with even a hair out of place, I won’t hear the end of it.” She directed her to the chair for at least a quick scan, not seeing any obvious injuries.

Alternate Celeste started to protest, but then realized she would have done exactly the same thing. She briefly wondered if she would win an argument against herself, but shook it off. She sat in the more modern bio-chair, and looked at it with fascination. "Oh, I really like this. Does it perform similar to a bio-bed?"

“More or less. It’s not quite as in depth as a surgical bed, but we can get almost as much as a general bio-bed.” Celeste started a general scan. “Any injuries, aches, pains, problems you want to freely report? And don’t even think about trying to hide anything.”

"I'm just... really tired," the alternate physician replied. She leaned back against the bio-chair. "Ohh, this is comfortable too."

Celeste activated the chair so that it stretched itself out as if an old fashioned recliner. “Then I think you should probably get a little nap in while you can”

"As much as I'd like to," the other Celeste said, "There is still a lot of... She let out a yawn. "... work to do." She looked around the ward. "You really do have a nice..." Before she could finish, she dozed off.

Nodding at her counterpart, Celeste retrieved a warm blanket and placed it over the woman. “Let her sleep as long as she can. When she gets up, she gets a good meal and a nutrition supplemental shake. She should be good to go.” Celeste walked over to the desk and sent a message to the bridge, requesting to help wherever they could, and notifying them that this universe’s Dr Ane was currently in residence in sickbay if needed, but directing that she was not to be needed for several hours. Also requesting information on Lukas’ mother currently in the medical bay on the star liner, and an offer of direct help there if needed.

“I wish there was more we could do.” She said to Ian.

The EMH nodded and sighed. "I know what you mean. We will do what we can though, and I'm certain there will be more to do."
