"Captain April Styles-Fyrstk"
by: Rayne McCloud

JDL: Captain McCloud, Dr. Ane and Captain Styles-Fyrstk

Dr. Celeste ane arrived in the transporter room and was waiting for clearance to beam over to Pasteur. Knowing that there were multiple injured on the station and she would need all her wits about her, Celeste tried to reinforce her mental shielding. She usually kept shields active to not react to everything around her, but right now she was having a problem. Something was bleeding through. She hadn’t felt something like this for a long time.

It couldn’t be a version of her mother, as Terra was psi-null and not even Celeste could sense her. The only other people that could sneak past her shields were Luna, who was as much a sister to her as she’s ever had, and Noble who actually was her brother. Not even the other Fyrstk kids could affect her like this.

She searched the telepathic signature, and it was sooooo familiar, but she couldn’t quite recognize it. It was similar to Luna, but not her.

Celeste seemed lost in thought, and then she caught it. Her eyes widened until her face started to hurt. ‘Aunt April?’ She whispered. Could it really be her? She hadn’t felt that signature in more than 15 years. Back when she was being taught how to manage her telepathic skills by Aunt April, when she was young. Oh how she missed that. How she missed her!

~Celeste?~ came a voice inside her head. ~Is that really you?~

~Aunt April? Yes, it’s me. Is it you? Are you really here?~ she sent back.

~I am really here,~ came the reply, ~But how is it you are here, and are you on that ship named, Eagle?~ It was clear by the tone of the thought, the other woman was unsure of something.

Celeste dropped all her shields to April. ~yes, I’m here on the Eagle. You are probably not going to believe what I am about to tell you, but you can read my mind to confirm it. We’re from an alternate universe. I’m all grown up, and medical officer on board. I’m ready to beam to Pasteur to help.~. She hesitated, not sure if she should say anymore. She wasn’t really good at keeping things from April when she was young, hopefully she had gotten better as she grew up, but being that April was not around her anymore, it was hard to tell at this time

There was a slight pause, as April did search the physician's mind. and while the process only took nano-seconds, it felt, to Celeste, like a lifetime. Finally, April sent back, ~It really is you, Celeste... or at least a version of you. Your mother is aboard the station, helping. Try not to catch her in a delicate moment.~

~thank you,~ she replied. ~I’ve missed you Aunt April, I love you.~ she sent quickly before she lost the nerve, then put her shields back into place. She hasn’t gotten to say a formal goodbye the last time. She damned well was not gonna let that happen this time!

~I love you, too, Celeste,~ came the captain's response. Celeste could feel that her aunt knew there was something Celeste wasn't telling her.

“Dr. Ane to the bridge," Ane said tapping her combadge, "I’m in the TR, ready to beam over whenever we’re in range.”

"Acknowledged," came the voice of Captain McCloud. "We're estimating five more minutes, so long as we get past this one hurtle."

“if the hurtle is one captain April fyrstk, I think she’ll let us pass,” the doctor commented

~*~

"I hope you are correct. Bridge out," McCloud replied, tapping off the comm-link. He looked to the main screen, and the image of Captain April Styles-Fyrstk. "Captain, we've just had a discussion with Captain Scott. and... "

On the screen April had turned her head slightly, as if listening to someone offscreen. Her gaze returned to McCloud, but it was softer now. "Yes. Captain Scott has just informed us of such. Plus, there was... another factor confirming your authenticity. You may pass, Captain, but do not let your sensors down. Typhon Pact ships have been known to pop up out of nowhere."

"Thank you, Captain," McCloud acknowledged.

"And, take care of that physician you recently acquired," she half warned. "She's a good soul"

"That is one fact I do know, personally, Captain," McCloud replied with a nod and a knowing smile. "Eagle out." He wasn't going to go into detail about his relationship with Dr. Ane, at least not just yet. "Helm, proceed to Pasteur."
