"Frustration Abounds" by Commodore Lukas Fyrstk with Captain Rayne McCloud U.S.S. Dauntless, the Alpha Quadrant: Commodore Lukas Fyrstk sat staring at the forward view screen. This was driving him crazy. They had been seraching in an ever-growing arc away from the station. Looking for any clue that the wormhole had opened and dumped the school shuttle out in the Alpha Quadrant. So far, there were no signs of this having happened. He wanted to shout at his science officer. He wanted to make the ensign search the area yet, again, with a freaking magnifying glass if that would find his kids. He knew this was an irrational way to think. So, he sat. "Mr. Reynolds," he said to the helm officer. "Trah to hail the Eagle through the slip-stream relay." It took almost ten minutes, ten excruciatingly quiet minutes before the image of Captain Rayne McCloud appeard on the main screen. "Rayne," Lukas started, dropping all fomral ranks, and almost pleading to the starship captain for good news. "As much as I'd like to tell you we found them, Lukas," McCloud said over the comm, "I, unfortunately, can't. There was no evidence of a wormhole opening in the original coordinates, but we're moving off. We awer already greeted by a Tregana warship, and they seemed hell-bent in boarding us until they got some kind of message that seemed to have something to do with us, and they took off. We're wondering if another of hteir ships have found the shuttle." "Let me guess," Lukas replied. "They ordered you out of their space." "Yes. We are trying to keep track of them, but still cannot determine where they're headed." "You need to fahnd a way to be certain, Rayne," Lukas urged. He wanted to order the Eagle to follow the warship and see what they're up to, but he knew he couldn't do that. Starfleet had always vowed to abide by another race's laws. "We'll do our best, Lukas. I do have an idea that I would rather not transmit over comm, but will keep you informed of the outcome." "Ah appreciate that, Rayne," Lukas told him quietly. "Ah appreciate all y'all are doing for us. Good luck, Dauntless out." The screen went back to showing the starfield, and Lukas let out a sigh of frustration. SCHOOL SHUTTLE, Somewhere: "Ronnie?" Ronov Fyrstk, lifted his head, and quickly wiped his eyes. He didn't want anyone to know he had been crying, especially his older sister, though she probably knew. They all shared a mental link, though is was particularly stronger with Malachi, but he could rarely hide anything from any of his siblings. "Ah was.... just takin' a moment ta.... orient us." "I know," Luna lied, placing her hand on his shoulder. She could feel the pressure that was being put on her brother, actually on all them. "I hate to say this, but wherever we are, we need to get help. Miss Livvey is getting worse. The food and water won't last." "What do ya want me t' do, Luna," Ronov asked. He didn't get nasty with her, he was just at a loss as to what to do. There was a ship outside the asteroid field looking for them. "I don't know, Ronnie," Luna answered. "I figured I have to tell some..." "We will figure out something, Luna," came the voice of the other twin, Rohan. He had come forward to "help" Ronov. "Thank you, you two," Luna said. She gave each one a kiss on the head. "Oh, make that three. Thank you Noble." She gave hima kiss on his cheek to which the boy blushed. They all watched her go back to the passenger area. "Even if we could get outta hare," Ronov asked after she was out of earshot, "Where would we go?" "Well," said Rohan, tapping on the forward console. "I was looking at the sensor readings of the area, prior to us going in this asteroid field. There is a Class-M planet about four hours away at our maximum warp." "Better add some time to that," Noble cautioned. "These engines don't sound so good." "Ummmm.... there's a armed ship out there that wants ta make sure we don't go anywhere," Ronov reminded them. "Well, unlike our pursuer," Rohan explained. "I can get glimpses of their current location, outside the asteroid field. They are moving around it, trying to get a better fix on us, I imagine." "So we know where they're at," Noble concluded. "Exactly," Rohan concurred. "Ronnie, can we jump right to warp right out of the asteroid field?" "Yes and no," Ronov answered. "Well I know that if we aren't careful we could entrap pieces of the asteroid in our warp bubble and do irreparable damage to the shuttle." "If you consider blowing us up 'irreparable damage'," Ronov commented. "Well, if we could just work our way to a spot opposite of where that ship is, and make a warp jump right out of the field, we just might get away undetected." Ronov looked at his brother, then Noble. The latter had a neutral look on his face. Ronov glanced at the sensor reports again. Finally he looked back at his brother. "If Ah use short thruster bursts, Ah could probably make it to the edge without raising any indication we're trah'in' ta escape." "I can pinpoint an escape point with the lesat amount of asteroid debris to worry about," Rohan offered. That same fear came back at Ronov. That fear that told him this was no game. No simulation. One wrong move and they were all dead. Permanently. It was the hopeful look on his brother's face, and the sheer confidence he felt coming from his twin that made up his mind. "Let's do this." ### |
