Family:
-Father: Jaron tr'Nerik. Born: 2299. Romulan Ambassador to the Federation (retired 2387 after the Hobus Star went supernova). Returned to Romulan space with the destruction of his homeworld to help rebuild the Empire. Current Location: Raptor III.
-Mother: Kestra Ral. Born: 2339. Betazoid Ambassador to the Federation, took a leave of absence in 2369 to concentrate on her family. Returned from LOA in 2387, after her bond mate returned to the Romulan Empire. Kestra did not wish to follow with all the uphevel and having two young children.
- Brother: Tal Nerik. Born: April 2379. Twin of Carina. Prefers to go by Tal tr'Nerik, after his father returned to Romulan space. Plans to join his father after college.
- Sister: Carina Nerik. Born: April 2379. Twin of Tal.
Early History:
Varel was born in San Fransisco. She had a hard time growing up due to her father's ancestry. Because of that, she spent a lot of times with books. She graduated from High School at the age of 15 and applied for Starfleet Academy (as she would be 16 by the time classes started. The first year, she did not qualify. But her father told her not to give up. She reapplied the following year and was accepted.
Varel often traveled with her parents around the Federation, and has been to many worlds. At least once each year, she and her family would travel to Betazed to spend time with her Maternal relatives. Even with all the travel, she still feels her home is on Earth, having lived in the same house whenever they were on world.
With the destruction of the Romulan homeworld, Varel felt a sense of loss. For, while she had never been within the Romulan Empire, she still felt connected to it. Her father had told her many stories of places he had lived, and shown her many pictures. She had planned on visiting Romulus at some point, and now no longer has that option.
