"A QUICK Search"
by: Lukas Fyrstk

"A Quick Search"
by Commodore Lukas Fyrstk

It took less than a minute from when Lukas found out about the shuttle being sucked into Wormhole 3 for him to be beamed directly to the bridge of the U.S.S. Dauntless which was prepped and ready.
"Set course for the wormhole," Lukas ordered, sitting in the command seat of the Defiant-class starship.
"The wormhole is still open, Sir," called out Ensign Singleton, the science officer scheduled for this scramble.
    "Any sign of the shuttle?"
    "No, sir," Singleton reported.
The trip, though taking less than ten minutes, seemed to take hours.  Lukas' children, along with Terra's kids, and other children from the station were aboard that shuttle.  What went wrong?  The wormhole tour was an annual thing.  The pilot knew to avoid Wormhole 3, but the sensor data indicated they went straight for it.
They approached the unstable wormhole.  Inside its swirling energies made it look like a violent storm.  A storm sure enough to tear apart the school shuttle.
"Get us as close as you can," Lukas ordered.  "Full scans of the wormhole!"
"I think I have it, Sir," Singleton reported.  "Faint, but I'm pretty sure it's the shuttle."
"Can you get a lock on the occupants?"
    "No, sir.  Too much interference."
"Get a tractor lock on it!"
"I can start to feel the gravimetric pull, Commodore," reported Lieutenant j.g. Benier.  "It will make a tractor lock almost impossible."
Suddenly, just as Lukas was set to order the ship into the wormhole, it disappeared.  The cold, calm darkness of space was all that occupied the main viewscreen.
"The wormhole is... " Singleton looked at the main viewscreen.  "... closed, Sir."
Lukas bit back a retort about stating the obvious.  He knew the ensign was trying his best.  Mr.  Benier. Establish a link with the slio-stream communications array in Sector 1332."
